Go to Seaview Rainbow

We arrived in Koh Phangan with no place to stay and decided to check out Seaview Rainbow, a bungalow resort some friends visited a couple of years ago in the quiet northern part of Koh Phangan. When we arrived at the Thong Sala pier (after more than an hour on the Lomprayah boat, a high speed catamaran), we took a taxi to  Seaview Rainbow (฿300). We stayed there for seven nights at ฿600 per night, which was about ฿150 cheaper than the rate posted online.

After the taxi driver dropped us off at Seaview Rainbow, he hit a low hanging electricity cable while turning around and broke the electricity of the resort: great start! As you may or may not know, the electricity cables alongside the roads on the islands of Thailand are a mess, so I guess accidents like this are always a risk. It took a while, but they rearranged the cables and fixed it so we could finally put on our fan and test the WiFi connection.

Working in the Hammock at Seaview Rainbow
The Bucket-Flush Toilet

Our bungalow at Seaview Rainbow in Koh Phangan had a double bed, a fan, a private bathroom (with a bucket-flush toilet) and quite a large front porch with a hammock (which we used frequently) and a clothesline. For the first time on our trip around the world, there was a mosquito net over the bed. Another first timer was the cold shower. I didn’t mind it, as a shower needs to be refreshing on a tropical island like Koh Phangan, but Brecht likes his showers a bit warmer than I do. We could see the sea and beach from our front porch, so it was a small walk when we needed a refreshing dip in the water. The WiFi connection was the fastest up until now. We could work and blog as if we were home, except with a nicer view and better temperatures.

Seaview Rainbow has a very friendly owner and someone of the resort was always willing to drive us around for a decent price. The 7 eleven was of course within walking distance (they seem to pop up everywhere you look) and if we needed fresh towels or some toilet paper, we just had to ask.

The owner also told us that the southern part of Koh Phangan once attracted people who came to relax and do yoga. Now that’s the party zone of Koh Phangan (Full Moon Party, Half Moon Party, Jungle Party, and so on) and the “yoga-hippies” moved to the north-western part, where his resort is located. That makes his resort a nice and quiet place, where you can relax listening to the waves and enjoying nature. The parties are a 40 minute taxi ride away, so not the ideal location if you want to party every night. That didn’t stop us from going to the Full Moon Party though.

Enjoying the Food at Seaview Rainbow
Having Drinks with the Owner

There was no breakfast included, but in the resort there’s the Seaview Rainbow Restaurant, where we ate quite a few times. The food is really good and the prices are decent. We especially enjoyed the cheese burger, Indian curry with chicken and rice, and the Spanish omelette. A blogpost about where we lunched or dined when we decided to go out will be posted in a couple of days.

Although there where some splits in the floor and we encountered a cockroach or two, we had a pleasant stay and would probably return should we visit Koh Phangan again.
