Koh Tao is known as the place to be when it comes to scuba diving in Thailand. The island is dotted with dive shops, bars, restaurants and resorts. Not much more. Apart from scuba diving Koh Tao is also known for its nightlife. If you’re looking for nice and affordable rooms near the beach, but far enough to not hear the party noise, we can recommend Good Dream Hotel Koh Tao.

Good Dream Hotel Koh Tao

In 2015 we learned to scuba dive with Roctopus in Koh Tao. We loved it so much, we signed up for some fun dives with them during our second visit to Koh Tao in 2017. Good Dream Hotel is one of their recommended budget accommodations.

Good Dream Hotel is a pretty big hotel, which they were still working on during our visit in 2017. It’s located just a 5 minute walk from the Roctopus Dive Shop, which is right near the beach.

The road from the main street to Good Dream Hotel wasn’t paved yet in July 2017. It doesn’t really matter though, as you can reach the beach, the restaurant street and most dive shops on foot.

Our room at Good Dream Hotel

Good Dream Hotel has both private rooms and mixed dorms. Everything looked brand new when we stayed there. Probably because it was brand new. There was still construction going on.

Our private room was very nice and spacious, with a sofa, a small fridge, and a jungle view balcony. Our private bathroom was fully equipped with a shower, toilet, and sink. Everything was new and clean, towels were provided, and soap dispenser hung on the wall in the shower.

The room had a ceiling fan and a portable fan. There was an aircon as well, but it didn’t work, as we only paid for a fan room (better when you’re scuba diving).

Remember to hang out the sign “Please clean my room” if you want your room to be cleaned, otherwise they won’t do it. Some might find this annoying, but we actually like it, because it’s a waste of resources to get your room cleaned daily.

Facilities and Services at Good Dream Hotel

Breakfast isn’t an option at Good Dream Hotel, but there are a few small restaurants within a couple of minutes walking.

We had breakfast at Samatha one morning, which is actually a Bed & Breakfast right next door of the hotel. Rachel from Roctopus recommended it to us, and the food was very good indeed! We both ordered a big omelet breakfast with bacon, which cost us 180 baht (~ $5 ~ €4). For drinks we had an Iced Café Latte with Caramel and a Caramel Macchiato.

The WiFi connection was pretty good at Good Dream Hotel, both in our room and on our balcony. We got 2 small bottles of water for free per day and everything to make tea and coffee was provided.

At the reception, you can buy drinks and book activities all over the island. There’s laundry service as well. When you’ve booked a dive course or fun dives with Roctopus Dive, they come pick you up at the pier and drive you to the hotel for free.

There’s a ping pong table, but no swimming pool at Good Dream Hotel, but you’re only a 5 minute walk away from the beach. And if you’re scuba diving with Roctopus Dive, you can make use of the swimming pool at Wind Beach Resort. That’s another hotel recommended by Roctopus, right at the beach and the Roctopus Dive Shop, but a bit more expensive.

How much will it cost you?

We booked our stay at Good Dream Hotel through Booking.com, costing us (back in July 2017) 5,400 baht (~ $162 ~ €138) for a private room for 5 nights. That means it was 1,080 baht (~ $32 ~ €27) for one night, including towels and good WiFi connection, but no breakfast. That’s pretty good value for money compared to other accommodation in Koh Tao.

We really enjoyed our stay at Good Dream Hotel. The rooms are nice, affordable, and spacious, and the location is great: close to the beach, but far enough to not hear the nightlife. Breakfast isn’t included, but that means you can try different breakfast bars around the island. And there are some great ones in Koh Tao! Check out our recommendations here.
