Trampolinn is one of the new kids on the block when it comes to alternative accommodation but definitely one to keep an eye on. It positions itself somewhere between CouchSurfing and Airbnb and aims at people with a spare couch, room or apartment. But instead of depending entirely on generosity (Couchsurfing) or basically allowing you to rent out your spare place (Airbnb) it uses an interesting point system.
So how does it work?
Let’s say you have a spare room and you’re willing to share it with a friendly traveler. Just join the Trampolinn community, fill in your information and put up your space, all for free. When someone is interested in staying with you he’ll send you a message and after some back and forth you can decide to confirm his stay. Every night you’re hosting will earn you a set amount of points (based on your accommodation) that can be used to your advantage later.
After hosting some guests it’s time for a well deserved vacation. You’ve racked up a nice amount of points and can now use these to spend on nights in other people’s homes. Even though it’s a new community there are already tens of thousands of active members so there are plenty of places to choose from. 356 points a night for an entire apartment in Paris or 35 points a night for a garden camping spot in Chiang Mai. There’s something for everyone.
Earn enough points by hosting and you’re basically traveling for free. Don’t have a spare couch? Don’t worry! It’s possible to buy point packages as well starting from 200 points for € 9.99 (and getting cheaper from there).
It’s going to be interesting to see how Trampolinn grows.
