Update: Saphaipae Hostel has been closed. Check out these other accommodation options in Bangkok.
During our visit to Bangkok, we stayed at Saphaipae Hostel (4 nights, ฿3600). It is well situated, close to a BTS Skytrain station, S5 Surasak, (a 5 minute walk) and the Chao Phraya Express Boat (a 10 minute walk). A 7-eleven shop is right around the corner as well.
To get to the hostel from the airport, we took the Airport Rail Link and the BTS Skytrain (฿164 in total for two), which took about 45 minutes in total.
When checking in, you receive a personal WiFi login you can use anywhere at the hostel. In our room, a two person bedroom with shared bathroom, was an airconditioning system (unfortunately no remote and no “quiet mode”). It also had a TV (nice, but we didn’t use it) and two large lockers (bring your own lock). Breakfast, two towels and three bottles of drinking water every day were included in the price of our stay.
The breakfast buffet was OK (no experience yet in Thai breakfast), with eggs and sausages, some rice and/or noodles, toast, fruit and cold drinking water, tea and coffee. You can also have lunch and dinner at Saphaipae Hostel, à la carte. Although not included, it’s a nice back up plan when suddenly the rain starts pouring at the moment you are heading out for dinner. The food was nice and not too pricey (most dishes around ฿100).
In the same area as the reception, there is a common space where you can join others for a chat, a drink, a game of Jenga or pool. There is a common refrigerator, microwave oven, TV and Xbox, some chairs and sofas. A bunch of computers are at your disposal to Skype home or do some research. You can buy some cold drinks and there is a little shop with some snacks.
On almost every floor there’s a shared bathroom, separated for men and women. It’s nice and clean, with a soap dispenser on the wall at the sinks and in every individual shower. There are three laundry rooms where you can wash, dry and iron your clothes.
Overall our stay at Saphaipae Hostel was a pleasant experience. The staff was nice and everything we needed (and more) was available or nearby.
