During our visit to Cameron Highlands, we stayed at David's Hotel Apartment for five nights ($101.66, paid online on Agoda). We arrived in Tanah Rata (little town in Cameron Highlands) by bus from George Town (Unititi Express, $18.73 for the both of us). The owner, David Lee, would have picked us up at the “bus station” (don’t expect too much) if we wanted, but it was merely a 5 minute walk.
David’s Hotel Apartment in Cameron Highlands is a part of Greenhill Resort (go left when the road splits, then on the right side of the building) and consists of a small hall and four apartments. We could just walk in, the key was there waiting for us. After an hour or so, the owner arrived and welcomed us to Tanah Rata. He was very friendly and eager to share tips and information about what to do in Cameron Highlands. He told us he had never accommodated people for five days before. Most people only stay two or three days. As we arrived in the evening and departed in the morning, we were actually four full days there, from which we worked and blogged two and went hiking the other two.
Our room was quite new with a private bathroom and a fan. As we were used to 30°C and more for the past month, no fan was needed with a temperature of about 20°C (and less at night). It felt actually like a hotel room, as there were even bars of soap and toothbrush sets provided as well as a wall hung hair dryer. Two large and two small bottles of water stood in the room and more at the “reception” (just a small table) for you to take when needed, next to the toilet paper. He insisted on cleaning the room after two days and if you want fresh towels, you can just ask. Breakfast is not included, but there is a Starbucks and plenty of local options in Tanah Rata.
We were very pleased with our stay at David’s Hotel Apartment in Cameron Highlands. Only drawback is the terrible internet connection. You can’t get anything done in the room, which is really frustrating when trying to maintain a blog or getting some work done. Using Skype here was definitely not an option. Fortunately there are a lot of restaurants in Tanah Rata with good food and an even better internet connection, more about that in our next blogpost “Where to eat in Tanah Rata”.
