Gift Ideas for the Photographing Traveler
Is a regular camera not cutting it anymore? There are plenty of gadgets to take your photographs and videos to the next level, if your budget permits.
Drone
Earlier this year (no time to wait for birthdays or holidays) we bought ourselves a DJI Mavic Pro. As travel bloggers we wanted a drone small enough to take with us on our travels, but powerful enough to take stunning and detailed aerial shots. After some research the DJI Mavic Pro came out a winner. Check out some of the drone shots we made at The Cliffs of Moher in Ireland.
Handheld Camera Stabilizer
Around the same time we bought the DJI Mavic Pro, we bought the DJI Phone Camera Gimbal Osmo Mobile as well. It’s a handheld camera stabilizer, smoothing and even cancelling out movements you make while filming with your phone. We played around with some hyperlapse videos during our visit to the Hallerbos in Belgium.
360° Camera
Just last week we bought a Ricoh Theta V 360 Spherical Camera. I know, Brecht’s a techie traveler, loving his photography gadgets! Unfortunately we haven’t had time or opportunities to try it out yet, but we’re definitely looking forward to making impressive 360° shots on our travels. It’s amazingly small btw, perfect for taking anywhere.
GoPro
One of the photography gadgets that’s been with us on our trip around the world is our GoPro. We mainly use it for underwater photographs and videos while scuba diving, snorkelling, or other water activities. Check out some underwater shots from our liveaboard dive trip to the Great Barrier Reef with Pro Dive Cairns.
Gift Ideas for the Long-Term Traveler
The following 4 gifts are essentials for long-term travelers. Since we’ve been on a year long trip around the world, we have a pretty good idea of what will come in handy. Here goes.
Dry-Bag/Portable Laundry System Wash Bag
When you’re traveling long term, you will have to wash your clothes eventually. I know, laundry service is ridiculously cheap in Southeast-Asia, and most campgrounds and motels have coin-operated washing machines. However, when you just need a couple of underpants or socks washed and your sink won’t do, you’ll thank us for having recommended the Scrubba. And it doubles as a dry-bag!
All-In-One Soap
An all-in-one soap you can use to wash your body, clothes, teeth, dishes and more. That sure is something that can come in handy on a long-term trip! We brought the Dr Bronner’s Pure Liquid Castile Soap (Peppermint) on our trip around the world and we still take it on every trip we go on. We do not brush our teeth with it though.
Portable Hanging Toiletry Bag
During our trip around the world we spent 4 months in a campervan, and I have to say it’s really practical when you can hang your toiletry bag. Not just in a campervan though, but in hotels, hostels and definitely a tent as well. And it’s not even hard to find one that’s cute too.
Microfiber Travel Towel
The only towel we brought on our trip around the world was one Microfiber Travel Towel each. It’s small, quick drying and multifunctional, all you need.
Gift Ideas for the Beach-Loving Traveler
Does the traveler in your life prefer beach vacations? Here’s a list of travel gifts for men and women that can come in handy on a day on the beach.
Kindle Paperwhite E-Reader
One of our all time favourite travel items is our Kindle. It’s small, lightweight and can hold thousands of books. Perfect for some entertainment during a beach day, but ideal for long-term travel too. Did you know they even have a waterproof Kindle now?
Sandless Beach Mat
Don’t you just hate it that sand creeps everywhere? And how it sticks to your body when you just applied sun screen? Horrible. That’s all in the past now though, because you can buy a sandless beach mat. Genius!
Snorkel Set
Personally, I prefer beaches where you can spot (tropical) fish. A snorkel set is helpful gear to do so. Preferably bring an underwater camera as well, to have proof of your beautiful fish sightings. Last time we went snorkelling on Koh Tao, we spotted 2 small octopuses!
Sun Hat
When you’re spending entire days in the scalding hot sun, you’ll be glad to have a sun hat. Covers a bad hair day as well. Can’t go without one anymore!
Gift Ideas for the Camping Traveler
If you’re loved one is more of an adventurous traveler (or a festival-lover), you will definitely make him or her happy with one of the following travel gifts.
Portable Solar Charger
In these times of Instagram and online businesses, it’s sometimes hard to really get off the grid. In order to stay connected to the world (or keep your camera charged), a portable solar charger can be a convenient travel item.
Outdoor Inflatable Lounger Couch
When you’re on a camping trip it’s nice to have a comfortable lounger to lounge in. Need I say more?
Bearz Outdoor Blanket
Nothing’s more annoying than having to sit on the wet ground while camping, hiking, picnicking, or on a festival. Take this small Bearz Outdoor blanket with you on your travels and those annoyances are part of the past. Bonus: it’s sand proof too! So perfect for a relaxing beach day as well.
Mini Water Filtration System
The Sawyer Mini Water Filtration System filters undrinkable to drinkable water. An essential item in each hiker’s emergency kit. It’s small, lightweight and fits on standard disposable water bottles and you can even drink directly from your water source.
Found something you like? We already have a bunch of these travel gifts we suggested here and are loving them. However, we don’t have a waterproof e-reader, portable solar charger, outdoor inflatable lounger couch or Bearz outdoor blanket. Hint, hint …
